What Is a Slingshot Car?

When you think about cars, what comes to mind? Luxurious leather seats? High-tech gadgets? The sound of the engine revving as you take off down the street? For most people, a vehicle is about status and luxury. But for some people, cars are all about speed and adrenaline.

These speed enthusiasts look for ways to go faster and push the limits of what is possible. And one of the best ways to do this is by driving a slingshot. So what is a slingshot car? Let’s find out!

All About the Slingshot Automobile

The Polaris Slingshot, a three-wheeled motorcycle, will make you fall in love with driving all over again. The Slingshot is a unique way to experience the thrill of the open road and the open sky, combining the finest features of cars and motorcycles.

Slingshot Specifications

  • The Slingshot does not lean and features a steering wheel that can be tilted. It lacks a roof, doors, or side windows, but the entire interior is waterproof, allowing it to be cleaned with a hose and drained through drain holes in the floor.
  • The S and SL models have 18″ x 7.5″ front rims with 225mm width tires and a back rim that measures 20″ x 9.0″. The front wheels and tires of the SLR and R models are the same, but the R model has a 20″ x 11.0″ rear wheel with a 305mm wide tire.
  • Each model has an anti-roll bar and double-wishbone front suspension. In 2020, when the second-generation cars were introduced, a 5-speed automatic transmission was made available as an option.
  • The layout is set up similarly to that of any other car, including a steering wheel, gear shift, brake pedal, clutch pedal, and gas pedal.

Safety

When riding a Polaris Slingshot, wearing a full-faced, DOT-approved helmet is advised; however, each state has different regulations regarding safety, licensing, and helmet use.

The Slingshot is the best way to experience the thrill of open-air driving and close closeness to the road without learning to ride a motorcycle. Its federal categorization as a three-wheeled motorbike exempts it from adhering to vehicle safety regulations. Like any motor vehicle, Slingshot drivers must travel cautiously and in compliance with all traffic laws.
